Yan Xun Xiao Zhong is smoked tea or also referred to as tar tea. It is a special kind of Chinese tea. What makes it unique is the production method: it is smoked on actual pine needles, which is rarely done as it is very expensive. Manufacturers often use artificial smoke instead, but that is not the case with this tea.
Yan Xun XIao Zhong has a smoky aroma similar to that of a burned piece of wood. The first couple of steeps have a smoky flavour with a hint of cinnamon, the third and fourth steeps have a rich plumb flavour.
This tea can be prepared in porcelain or clay teaware. Recommended water temperature is 85-90 °С (185-194°F). The best brewing methods are Pin Cha or steeping in a thermos or cup. It can be steeped up to 8 times. Tea-to-water ratio is 5 g. (0.18 oz) per 100 ml. (3.5 oz) of water.
