Ceramist Demyan Kaptur lives and creates in a small cottage situated in Belarus. The cottage is almost cut off from the rest of civilization, here he has his own studio with wood-fired kilns. He digs up clay in an old source a few kilometers away from the studio, his ancestors got their clay from this same place.
Demyan travels often to meet and learn from other ceramic masters, he is currently studying Japanese ceramic techniques. Most of his teaware is fired in wood-fired kilns including an Anagama kiln where the temperature levels can reach up to 1400°C. As Demyan himself puts it: “I am doing what our ancestors did 1000 years ago”.
