Gaiwans

The Gaiwan, which can be translated as "a bowl with a lid", is literally a small bowl with a lid and sometimes with a saucer. The Gaiwan is an alternative to a teapot and generally fulfills the same function: tea leaves are steeped in the bowl and then strained using the lid. They are usually made out of ceramic, clay or porcelain.
