Tea friends, also known as tea pets, are clay figures kept on the Cha Ban during the tea drinking process, occasionally water is poured over them. They are kept for good fortune, luck or any other number of reasons depending on the type of tea friend, initially they were used as a symbolic sacrifice. They can vary greatly in shapes, sizes and colour.
